WOODINGS INDUSTRIAL CORPORATION RELINES 25 TUYERE STOCK ASSEMBLIES IN FIVE WEEKS FOR ISG SPARROWS POINT

Woodings Industrial Corporation, a worldwide leader in the manufacture of metals industry equipment, completed internal relines on 25 tuyere stock assemblies for ISG Sparrows Point, Sparrows Point, Md., in just five weeks.

Woodings received the 25 tuyere stock assemblies filled with slag and some molten iron following the back-up of a furnace. The blow pipes, lower elbows and lance assemblies were affected. Woodings completed the relines in its Mars, Pa., plant, removing the slag and iron, replacing the refractories and repairing parts on all 25 tuyeres in just five weeks.

"Woodings' quality is always there," said Don Krtanjek, maintenance manager, iron making for Bethlehem Steel, Sparrows Point. "They were involved with our 1999 reline and did a great job, so when we had an upset recently on the L Furnace, they were the people I called. Woodings reconditioned and relined 25 tuyere stocks for us - refractory as well as the coke lance position was critical for us, and Woodings nailed it," Krtanjek continued. "They were really quick, the quality was great, and the price was right."
