27 valves on the way
WOODINGS FILLS GREAT BIG ORDER FOR MICHIGAN STEELMAKER
In making a complete overhaul to one of its BF stoves, a major steel producer in Michigan has called on Woodings Industrial to supply 27 valves for the project. The equipment includes two hot blast valves, three chimney valves, ten lever valves, four double eccentric valves, six regulating butterfly valves and two goggle valves–all of which have been designed, engineered and manufactured by Woodings.
Designed to provide excellent efficiency, the Woodings valves feature a variety of design elements that contribute to smooth, uninterrupted every-day production and long-term performance.
- Hot Blast Valves — fully water cooled and refractory lined
- Chimney Valves — feature a 90-degree elbow design with the disc rotating from the closed to open position. Spherical roller bearings on the main shaft. Stainless steel overlaid seats on the disc and the body.
- Lever Valves — pressure vessel steel construction, stainless steel overlay on valve and disc seat, robust design for linkages, pins and bushings.
- Butterfly Valves — two types: rubber seated valves for positive shutoff and clearance type regulating valves that do not seal but regulate flow. The regulating valves have spherical roller bearings on the main shaft. Both feature pressure vessel steel construction.
- Goggle Valves — Mechanical valve with stainless steel seats and rubber seals. Limitorque operators are used on both the clamping drive and the open/close drive on the goggle plate.

Despite the size of the order, the need for speed in terms of delivery is a critical component of the project. Woodings delivered five of the valves in November and will to ship the remaining valves by the end of 2007. Spares for the project will be delivered to Great Lakes early in 2008.
As is the case with all Wooding orders, each of the 27 valves were specifically designed and built to meet the customer's exact requirements.
